biography

Dragos Bucur was born in Bucharest, Romania in 1977. He completed his training at the National University of Drama and Film in Bucharest, where he also taught acting classes after his graduation.

As he began his film career, Dragos gained attention for his performance in Cristi Puiu's STUFF AND DOUGH (Directors' Fortnight, 2001) as well as in Radu Muntean's RAGE, for which he was presented the Best Actor Award (2002) by the Romanian Film Critic's Society.
He worked with Muntean in two further films, THE PAPER WILL BE BLUE (2006) and BOOGIE (which also screened in the Directors' Fortnight, in 2008).
In 2009, Dragos starred in POLICE, ADJECTIVE (Corneliu Porumboiu), which won the Jury Prize and FIPRESCI Prize in Cannes 2009, and is this year's Romanian submission for the Academy Award as Best Foreign Language Film. For his performance as a policeman Dragos won the Gopo as Best Actor at the 2010 Gopo Awards as well as the Best Actor Award at this year's BAFICI in Buenos Aires. Currently he is playing in a principal role in Peter Weir's film, THE WAY BACK.
At the 2010 Cannes International Film Festival, Dragos could be seen in the Un Certain Regard Section with Radu Muntean's TUESDAY, AFTER CHRISTMAS (2010), togehter with Romanian Shooting Star 2007, Maria Popistasu. In April 2011, Dragos is in Romanian cinemas with THE GODMOTHER, a comedy co-directed by Virgil Nicolaescu and Jesus del Cerro.

Jury's comment: "This is an actor who reminds one of the Pied Piper; he devotes such intensity to his performance that the audience has no choice but to follow. With great precision, he portrays the inner conflicts of his characters and the effect is mesmerizing."
