Jury's comment: From tomboy to temptress, from street kid to secretary, Vikander shows a sheer range in her big-screen debut that's utterly hypnotic. Her grace and physicality make her transformation in Pure totally believable.

Aged 22, Alicia Vikander was born in Gothenburg, Sweden, and trained at The Royal Swedish Ballet School for nine years to become a professional dancer, but is now dedicated completely to acting. As a seven-year-old, Alicia sang in the musical "Kristina From Duvemala" and also performed in many productions of the Gothenburg Opera such as "Les Miserables" and "The Sound of Music".
She then began to have parts in several shorts and made her TV acting debut in 2005 with a role in Tomas Alfredsson's Christmas special "A December Dream" for public broadcaster SVT.
Alicia has since had parts in various Swedish TV series and made her big-screen acting debut in Lisa Langseth's PURE which won the Flash-Forward Award at the 2010 Pusan International Film Festival. For the role of Katarina she was awarded 'Best Actress' at the 2011 Guldbagge Awards.
Recently, Alicia had a lead role in Ella Lemhagen's CROWN JEWELS (2011) and is now working with Mads Mikkelsen in A ROYAL AFFAIR (Nikolaj Arcel, 2012).
