biography

Born in Hamar, Norway, in 1976, Anders Baasmo Christiansen graduated from the Oslo National Academy of the Arts in 2000 and quickly established himself as one of Norway's most promising actors. His stage work has comprised both contemporary and classical works, including plays by Shakespeare, Chekov, Brecht and Ibsen, and featured main roles such as Mozart in "Amadeus".

He is the only Norwegian actor who has received all three Best Actor awards: in 2004 for his feature film debut in BUDDY (Morten Tyldum); for his TV role in "A Man Immortal - Young Henrik Ibsen" (2007); and for his performance on stage as Prince Hamlet in "Hamlet" (2008).
He recently starred in the acclaimed film, NORTH (Rune Denstad Langlo, 2009), which was screened at festivals around the world. Anders can also be seen in VEGAS (Gunnar Vikene, 2009), and RAFIKI (Christian Lo, 2009), which was part of the 2010 Berlinale section Generation, as well as in A SOMEWHAT GENTLE MAN (Hans Petter Moland, 2010), which was selected for Competition.

Jury's comment: "This gifted young Norwegian actor has physical presence that is at once powerful and capable of great delicacy. It's truly exciting to see him move from a dashing action hero in one film to a sensitive interpretation of the famed author Henrik Ibsen in another."
